Malayalam cinema has told many stories in many ways. Malayalam cinema is rich in many storytelling methods that have touched the hearts of people.
Today, I want to talk about gangs in our cinema… There are many gangster films… Lalettan’s Sagar Alias Jackie, Ikka’s Gangster, Fafa’s Malik, Asif Ali’s Underworld, Prithviraj’s City of God, and many other films… That’s not what I mean here. I’m going to talk about gangs within cinema.
So, when I think about gangs in cinema, the first two super hit films that come to mind are… Mammookka’s Kauravaar, and then Lalettan’s Devasuram. There are many more such characters in Malayalam cinema that control the storyline of the gang… There are action, drama, comedy, thriller, horror, etc.
However, Kauravar and Devasuram are the two best films that gave equal importance to all the characters in the gang and gave the audience a visual experience from start to finish. Ali and the gang (Thilakan, Bheeman Raghu, Babu Antony and then Mammootty) in Kauravar are still one of the films that excite us. The name Mangalassery Neelakandan and with him, Maniyanpillai Raju and Ramu and Sriraman. Devasuram such a cult movie is still viewed by Malayalam audiences with out any issues.
Many such films can be mentioned . Gangs in various forms like Anjuran and Makkal in Godfather, Moolamkuzhiyil Sahadevan and his friends in CID Moosa, Benny and his friends in Mookkilla Rajyathu, Thomas Kutty and his friends in , In Harihar Nagar, Arakkal Madhavanunni and his brothers in Valyetan, Bellary Raja and his friends in Rajamanikyam, Thala and his gang in Chottamumbai, and so on and on.
There are many more such movies where gangs are characters… These are just some of the movies that suddenly came to our mind and stayed in our memory. While reading this, comment the gangs of the movies and the name of the movie that comes to your mind…
