What’s there in a name……? A very trivial and funny question in today’s current affairs… Yes, what’s there in a name …!!!
For the past few days, Superstar, Union Minister of State and BJP’s Thrissur MP Sri Suresh Gopi’s latest movie Janaki vs State of Kerala – JSK has been the topic of discussion. The censor board has said to cut 96 places…. but it does not say exactly why the crew members of the movie shoupd do that…..? The movie, which was announced for release on June 27, is languishing inside the censor board due to the NAME of the central charecter has synonyms of Goddess Sita of the Ramayana and that is Janaki Movies Unfiltered had previously written about the release of the movie..
We wonder What is happening here…. Who is behind all this…. How can freedom of expression be demonstrated here… So many questions arises in our minds …And we all know the answers, still nothing is clearly mentioned or made aware to the public … ! This is not the first time that The name of The Movie, the Content of the film, Some Scenes of the film, the Names of the actors and the crew members who are part of the film, Their Religion, etc…becoming a problem for some extremists in these days.
Who is getting bothered by the above facts…? Who is being upset….? Who is acting intolerant about such things..?
Cinema is a medium..a powerful medium that can convince a large audience about certain facts in just about two and a half to three hours and leave an indelible impression on those who watch it. Therefore, this medium called cinema is being used not only as a means of entertainment, but also to bring facts, incidents & memories very deeply to the depths of our souls. This way , there will be a lasting impression too in the minds of people and chances are there for deep discussions or even public out roar on the matters. That too, when people’s favorite stars present and portray them as characters, it gets better and a hundred times more effective.
Something similar happened to the recently released Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj. Prithviraj, in just 20-minute of the film,brought back an event that today’s new generation, perhaps under the age of twenty-two, unheard of, seem like it happened yesterday. The public discussed it…opinions were expressed…the Gujarat riots were once again discussed by the mainstream media…and made it news. Many names that had been forgotten came back to people’s mind…when the censor board did not created any problems aboutvthe movie..on the contrary, the extreme right wing and a few leaders of some political parties forced the film’s crew to tear up the film again, change the names, and add beep sounds after the movie was released world wide. The whole events even lead Superstar Shri Mohanlal apologize to the public…for hurting their sentiments… of which we still don’t know , who got hurt or whose sentiments had broken… !!
Here is why… India being a democratic country… a people who pride themselves on having freedom of expression, secularism and high progressive mindset, are being shown to be degrading in the current Indian politics… The fascist move of saying that “We don’t want what We don’t like here..” is being brought to every sector with great precision and conviction. Even if it is a central ministrr ofvthe ruling party as the main lead of the film, What those fascist minds don’t like is not allowed here is as same as it is..!
In mythology, Sita is the daughter of Janaka … The name Janaki is synonymous with Sita. The father’s name of the character in the film, Janaki, is Vidyadharan…. By calling the character Janaki .. just Janaki , it will resemble Sita. But as the character is Vidyadharan’s daughter and is named like Janaki V, it will not resembles Sita…!!
Just yesterday, one of the leading advocate and also a social media influencer Adv. Mr. Hareesh Vadudevan Sreedevi wrote to censor board through right to information commission and asked to get the list of names of gods and goddesses which cannot be used in a movie or script . Advocate said, this list can be used if at all he makes a movie and will come in handy instead of getting into irrelevant controversies 😅😅
Should we feel proud or put our heads Down about these..????
In any case, it cannot be denied that such controversies may also be useful in giving a big start to the film. Movies Unfiltered does not say that the censor board was used for this. Despite all this, the only thing that is not understood is the silence of the superstar hero of the film. Instead of cutting 96 places, After court intervened , it was reduced to two places.. It was decided that Janaki V could be used instead of just Janaki. The court saw the film … The film is getting ready for release…. These are the current news. If the complainants gone to court, there should be a resolution… and not a compromise. Did the court give a verdict on the complaint here…? Did the complainant get justice…? In the context of excessive amount of money spent producing a film , and the interest that increases with each passing day… what can these film’scre members or producers do even when the Hero ofvthe film who is also the part of cabinet ministry of the ruling party couldn’tutter a word yet onnthe issue… as Janardhanan chetan , a veteran malayalam actor once told in a movie that “Discussions and suggestions are over..Everything made to compliments.. “😝😝…!
